In Ketanga's first Spartan Race attempt, we beat out over 400 teams of fitness enthusiasts to take 16th place overall!
The 8AM wave was full of speed and the 12PM wave beat the elements (rain and wind) to jump hurdles, climb stairs, and carry heavy sand bags and water jugs.
Special shout out to Coach Jay for helping motivate us throughout the race, as well as our friend Bishop Garland who helped some of us of the shorter persuasion get over the 8-foot walls as he ran the race with us just for fun (for his third time of the day!).
Hola from Mexico! Ketanga is finishing up a fitness retreat in Cancun, and the time has completely flown by. The resort is gorgeous, and there are plenty of places to mix up workouts or set up shop by the pool.
A day on the "Functional Fitness Fusion" retreat started with an iced coffee at one of two coffee shops followed by our morning workout overlooking the beach. Each day, Coach Jay had a different fitness focus for the group from boxing to sports conditioning. After the morning workout, the ravenous group enjoyed a buffet breakfast followed by vegging out by the pool/beach.
In the afternoons, the group could be found playing beach volleyball, enjoying wave runners, going on a horseback riding excursion, or enjoying snacks and cocktails by the pool (gotta love the all-inclusive resorts!). As the sun started to set, the group would gather for workout #2 in a quiet grassy area in the shade that we had to ourselves. We'd get in another challenging workout, shower up, and enjoy dinner, evening dips in the pool, and a few margaritas. I can't say enough about the resort, the people on the trip, or Coach Jay - this trip was a blast! Can't wait for round two!

This month, the Ketanga Krawl was lucky to fall on the nicest day of the year so far - sunny and beautiful.
The Ketanga Krawl is a fitness crawl where we visit three different studios to take three different types of classes - all in a row! The classes are 30-minutes each and meant to introduce fitness enthusiasts to different types of fun and effective workouts in the neighborhood.

Thanks to Coach Jay Lippa for teaching an amazing total body workout class yesterday at JackRabbit on the upper west side!
He started us off with foam rolling to work out some knots we are all filled with, and then we jumped into a series of dynamic stretches followed by a challenging warm up!
Jay had us run around the room, partner up for strength training, take on sports conditioning drills, and end with abs - a whole lot for an hour, and a great introduction to what his upcoming fitness retreat in Cancun, Mexico will entail!
