FUNctional Fitness Retreat
We're taking functional movement to a new level--- on the beaches of Costa Rica! Join Coaches Courtney and Cassian for a CrossFit-inspired getaway bringing together passions for motivating workouts, exciting adventures and stunning beaches!
Why Costa Rica? In addition to being a gorgeous place to enjoy yourself and grow as a mover, Costa Rica is home to a Blue Zone region where people tend to live much longer than average - for very special supposed reasons. The inhabitants are known to have a 'plan de vida' (or a strong sense of purpose), a primary focus on family and the ability to listen and laugh often, all things that are important to our Coaches and will be surfaced during the retreat!
Each day, Courtney and Cassian will lead one or two classes that balance body weight, mobility and strength training movements. In addition to the physical, they will help us have an in-depth understanding of the importance of breathing, flow in movement and personal health to optimize performance. The classes are CrossFit-inspired and are open to all levels!
Coach Cassian’s workouts will be focused on the balance between mind and body: strength, breathing and mentality, and Coach Courtney's classes will be CrossFit-inspired, meaning constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity! The three main pillars of the fitness on the retreat will be conditioning (cardio), strength and gymnastics movements. Workouts will be fun and engaging and vary between workshops (like learning to handstand) and more traditional workouts!
In addition to our workouts, three delicious meals per day, and comfortable accommodations, we have included two exciting activities to get to know Costa Rica by land and sea! We will be going on an exhilarating zip lining canopy tour and an all-levels surf lesson to practice riding the waves! Plus, during free time, you can sign up for additional excursions horseback riding for an additional cost.
We will be staying at the Encantada Ocean Cottages, a private boutique retreat center right on the beach. We'll have three home-cooked meals prepared each day with the freshest ingredients to enjoy while listening to the sounds of the waves in the background. The hotel has a private pool, direct access to the quiet beach, and tons of hammocks for naps!
Highlights / what's included
Courtney Chiu is a CrossFit coach with five years of experience. She currently resides and coaches in Boulder, Colorado at CrossFit Sanitas (the 4th top ranked CrossFit gym in the nation by Shape Magazine).
Courtney's athletic background stems from competing in track to the level of the Junior Olympics back in 2010 and 2012. Track didn’t hold her passion, but she was hungry to continue fitness thereafter. She pursued CrossFit shortly following the end of her track endeavors and became CF-L1 certified.
Her career began in Texas where she cultivated and led a Gymnastics program. This area has become her focus over the last three years with a CF-gymnastics certification. When it comes to anything bodyweight, from pull ups to handstands, you’ll see the passion in her teaching!
Cassian J. Cole is a self-employed sports therapist in Colorado Springs and currently in college to continue education for his creative passion in filmmaking and music.
Cassian has a degree in exercise science with over six years of professional coaching experiences and a deep understanding of human movement. He enjoys working with people from a mix of disciplines such as Mixed Martial Arts, Olympic weightlifting, rehabilitation and general fitness.
He is a NASM certified trainer, USA Weightlifting certified coach and a Licensed Massage Therapist. With these qualifications and varying hobbies like rock climbing, being a movie buff, practicing martial arts, travel and music, his favorite quote really comes to life: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”.
