Barre at the Beach
Who doesn’t love a good girls trip? And when you combine fun and effective daily workouts, with exciting activities in a beautiful setting, we would call it the ultimate girls retreat! Join retreat leader, Julie Godfrey and coach, Courtney Echols for a variety of daily workouts appropriate for all fitness levels, followed by fun activities, such as zip lining, sunset sailing and of course, poolside cocktails.
The daily workouts have a strong foundation in barre, but will incorporate tons of variety to keep you engaged and challenged- physically and mentally! Workouts will range from barre (full-body strength training) and cardio kickboxing to express HIIT and restorative classes to get you sweaty and keep it fresh each day. Classes are appropriate for all levels and modifications will be given to participants as needed.
In addition to our daily workouts, we'll enjoy a variety of exciting activities included in your retreat package (but totally optional). One of the highlights of our trip will be exploring Costa Rica from the treetops on an adrenaline-filled zip lining canopy tour! Our guides will take us through a private farm and down a series of zip lines overlooking miles of mountain views! Then towards the end of the trip, we'll go on a relaxing catamaran cruise where we will sail out in the ocean and soak up the sunshine and sites, we'll snorkel and watch for whales and dolphins, and then we'll enjoy a lunch buffet and open bar. As a grand finale, as the day comes to an end, we'll get a perfect private view of the sunset before going back to shore.
In between activities and workouts, there will be plenty of free time to relax, reflect, or sign up for additional activities, massages or excursions. Our resort is right on the beach and has beautiful pools so free time is yours to cherish! And when you walk out of the hotel you're in the middle of a small town with lots of shops and restaurants to explore.
Julie Godfrey is the Owner & Master Trainer of a boutique fitness studio, The Barre Code Plano. She has an extensive background in health and fitness. She spent her childhood dancing and went on to earn a BFA degree in Dance Performance from Kent State University. While pursuing a dance career in NYC, Julie was teaching group fitness classes and realized she had a real passion for helping others, specifically women, achieve their fitness goals and ultimately live healthier lives. It was that passion that led her to complete her Masters in Exercise and Wellness Promotion.
Prior to opening The Barre Code Plano, Julie had worked for the past 11 years in corporate fitness and wellness. She has a wealth of experience from personal training and running corporate fitness centers, to working as a Health Coach, assisting individuals with improving their health status through healthy eating and physical activity, to managing corporate wellness programs for Fortune 500 companies. Julie has built a solid reputation for herself in the fitness and wellness industry. In fact, her studio has been voted “The Best Gym for Women in Plano” for the last four years, which is a testimony to her amazing fitness community.
Because she passionately lives a very healthy lifestyle, Julie serves as a positive example for the clients that she trains and is able to connect with them in a way that has led to many life-long friendships. She loves working with women who make the choice to be stronger, healthier and ultimately happier and CANNOT wait to do it on the beach!
Courtney Echols is an instructor at The Barre Code Plano and is always quick to remind clients that she started as a client! What started as a breath of fresh (different) air from teaching indoor cycling and running a boot camp for women, turned into a new love that made her feel strong, feminine, unstoppable and part of something bigger- a community of women. Through many life changes and a demanding schedule of work-wife-mom-community, fitness is what keeps Courtney grounded and she’s always anxious to share that feeling with other women.
A Californian turned Texan and a lawyer turned nonprofit fundraiser, Courtney believes that fitness helps her to better navigate life’s challenges. Outside of the studio, Courtney works full time as a friend and fundraiser for an organization called My Possibilities which provides continuing education and job training for adults with disabilities. Although Courtney’s daily tasks and to-dos are often unpredictable, Courtney practices the self-care she preaches to clients by always making time to sweat, what she sees as a non-negotiable for her mind, body, & spirit. Courtney teaches barre and indoor cycling and is a Certified Personal Trainer.
Courtney and her husband Aaron recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in Costa Rica; surfing in Tamarindo and enjoying long (kid-less) walks on the beach in Guanacaste. She cannot wait to go back and cannot imagine a better trip than traveling with like-minded, balance seeking, healthy living loving women who understand that life is meant to be lived to the fullest, with fit friends old and new, and by the water.
