A. At Ketanga Fitness Retreats, we organize fitness-based vacations where you get a mix of working out, participating in local activities and relaxing with like-minded people. We identify the best fitness professionals, worldwide destinations, and heart-pumping adventures to make each trip unparalleled. Our vision is to not just see, but to experience the world by making use of natural landscapes and the world around us. Each trip has a unique theme or fitness focus ranging from boxing to yoga to interval training, Pilates, running, and more! If you don’t see the kind of trip you’re looking for, please contact us and we will keep you updated when a new trip is added.
Q. What is included in the price of a Ketanga Fitness Retreat?
A. This could vary depending on the trip you are purchasing, but our trips generally include: beautiful and relaxing accommodations, all or most meals based on the type of trip and venue, ground transportation in your destination, 1-2 workouts a day led by your Coach, as well as at least one group activity during the trip. We'll also include an awesome swag bag, insider information about your destination and sometimes additional workshops or activities! We also are happy to help guide you to additional excursions or things to do during free time.
Q. Are there any additional fees that I will incur outside of the price I’m paying on the website?
A. Unless otherwise arranged with us, you will be responsible for your own airfare, for the ground transportation to and from your departure airport, any tips you choose to leave at the resort, and any additional activities or dining/drinking that is done outside of the activities and events organized by Ketanga for your group. Additionally, travel insurance is not included but is highly recommended!
Q. How do I figure out what flights to book?
A. We will provide you with our recommended flights arrival and departure times which will allow for you to participate in the full retreat program. For trips where ground transportation is included, we encourage you to arrive within the window we specify so you can take advantage of that included shuttle. If you book outside of that time frame, you are responsible for your transportation to the accomomdations unless otherwise specified (and we are happy to help you coordinate that!).
Q. My significant other, family member, or friend wants to come on the trip as well, but they don’t want to do the workouts. Can they come at a discounted rate?
A. Our trips are open to everyone and your guest is encouraged to try the workouts as well. If there is a health concern or a specific reason that working out is not an option, please contact us at
[email protected] and we can go over your options.
Q. If I don’t know anyone coming on the trip, will I feel out of place?
A. Here at Ketanga we believe strongly in building a community of like-minded fitness and travel enthusiasts. The majority of our guests come on trips by themselves and leave with a whole group of new friends! The best part of joining a retreat on your own is that you can travel by yourself without ever being alone, and you have the choice during free time to hang with others or have some 'me time' - it's all fine!
Q. I know a trainer / coach who would be a great fitness retreat leader. Can I refer him/her to Ketanga?
A. We love referrals, we find some of our best coaches that way! Please send us a message with your coach's name, email, phone number, and website (if applicable), and let us know why you love him/her. Thanks in advance!
Q. If I'm traveling alone, will you find me a roommate or can I have a private room?
A. We can definitely help you find a roommate on a first come, first served basis, so the earlier you sign up the greater chance that a you will be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. Alternatively, you can sign up for a single room. If there are an odd number of trip participants who want roommates, we sometimes have the option of booking a triple room for a discounted rate, or moving you to a single room which may incur an additional single supplement fee (but we will work with with you to try and get the best rate possible) - so please be prepared for this cost if you sign up alone.
Q. Do I need to be in Olympic-level shape to attend a Ketanga retreat?
A. If you are an Olympic athlete, please contact us about hosting your own retreat! For other participants, all we require is that you have a positive attitude, and that you don’t have any health or physical issues that would prevent you from working out with the group. Our Coaches are experienced in leading groups of all levels, but some trips will be more intense than others, as described in each retreat summary. You can always contact us to inquire about the level of a specific retreat. You will also fill out a fitness evaluation form upon registering for a trip so your Coach will be aware of your background, goals and injuries or limitations in advance. Our coaches are dedicated to helping you reach your fitness goals and get the most out of your trip.
Q. What should I bring on the trip?
A. If there is any special equipment or apparel needed for a retreat, we will be sure to let you know once you sign up (e.g. boxing gloves, yoga mat) but generally think about packing enough workout clothing to last you for the duration of the trip. Additionally, use your destination as the guide, so if you’re going somewhere warm, don’t forget your swimsuit, sandals, and casual wear for in between workouts or evening activities.
Q. What if I need to cancel my trip?
A. Things happen, and sometimes cancellation is inevitable. Unfortunately, depending on the time of cancellation, fees may be incurred.
91 days or more before departure – loss of deposit
61 to 90 days before departure – loss of deposit and 50% of trip balance
Within 60 days of departure – loss of 100% of trip payment
Q. Do I need to purchase travel insurance?
A. Ketanga highly recommends that every participant purchases travel insurance. You never know what may occur on a trip - with or without Ketanga - from troubles with luggage / flights to medical concerns, so we believe travel insurance is worth every dollar. We suggest Insure My Trip as a resource to provide free quotes so you can find the policy that is best for you. If you choose to decline travel insurance for your trip, you will need to sign a form stating that you take financial responsibility for any expenses incurred as a result of refusing to purchase travel insurance.
Q. Where did the name Ketanga come from?
A. Ketanga, from the Maori language of the the indigenous population of New Zealand, means a longing for distant places or the opposite of homesick - 'away-sick'. Ketanga Fitness combines a passion for travel with a love for fitness to create the most active, fun, and memorable vacations.
