EPIC Fitness Scavenger Hunt

Explore Costa Rica on a 5-day adventure! Join us for a mix of high and low intensity workouts, a series of local adventures, and a special fitness scavenger hunt! Utilizing strength, common sense, and teamwork to complete the hunt, you will have the opportunity to get to know local activities, people, cuisine, and more.

The fitness:
This adventure will be led by head coaches of EPIC Hybrid Training, Alex Nicholas and Cassidy Watton. The workouts will have an emphasis on improving strength, endurance, power, agility, and balance through a variety of classes. In EPIC fashion, the daily workouts on this trip will be a combination of HIIT, obstacle course-style fitness, cardio, and yoga. The retreat:
Get ready for a combo of action and relaxation each day! When you're not training, you'll enjoy the thrill of surfing the Costa Rican waves, zip lining through tree canopies, and hiking through the mountains in Las Catalinas. In addition to all this fun and adventure, you will have plenty of down time to relax on the beach, enjoy the swim-up pool bars, and indulge in local cuisine.

Meet Your Coaches: Alex & Cassidy from EPIC Hybrid Training 

EPIC Hybrid Training is the multi-city gym that prides itself in helping clients develop overall strength, endurance, power, agility and balance. They aim to complement every aspect of their athlete's lives, and leading them on a fitness retreat in Costa Rica is certainly a part of it. EPIC coaches seven types of fitness classes and specializes in The EOC Program for the Obstacle Course Race (OCR) enthusiasts. Leading this retreat are EPIC's two Head Coaches, Alex Nicholas and Cassidy Watton.

Alex Nicholas is owner, founder, and Head Coach of EPIC Hybrid Training in New York City. Alex is a member of the Reebok Spartan Pro Team, and he has also achieved countless race podium finishes from Spartan to Duathalons and never backs away from a challenge!

Cassidy Watton

Cassidy is a 24/7 fitness professional and enthusiast! She is a professional obstacle racer on the Spartan Race Pro Team, Head Coach of Epic Hybrid Training NYC and the reigning champion of CMT's "Steve Austin's Broken Skull Challenge". Her passion is creating the most efficient, effective and fun workouts and sharing them with others to help create a sustainable fitness lifestyle for all!

Accommodations

One of Ketanga's favorite places for a fitness getaway, Tamarindo is a unique town in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica known for surfing and low key beach vibes. We will be staying at the beautifully-landscaped Tamarindo Diria, the 4-star beachfront resort with three pools (two with swim-up bars), a fitness center, massage services, and a small casino. Plus, being right on the beach means you'll waste no time between a fresh and delicious breakfast and soaking up the morning sunshine. While the property is relaxing and peaceful, the surrounding town is full of casual restaurants, bars, and shops making for a perfect balance and something for everyone!

Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday, April 6
  • Arrive at the Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) airport in the early afternoon and take provided shuttle to the resort
  • Welcome / intro meeting
  • EPIC Sunset Shakeout-- Get introduced to some hybrid body weight movements that will have you working through all ranges of motion in order to stretch and sweat out the travel cobwebs!
  • Group dinner (included) and optional nightlife

Day 2 - Friday, April 7
  • Versa Flex & Core-- Salute the sun on your first morning with some Epic Yoga plus abs…for obvious reasons. Plus, we'll kick off the Scavenger Hunt.
  • Breakfast overlooking the beach
  • Zip lining adventure
  • Lunch & free time
  • Chiselbox-- An interval boxing class for all levels to get you shredded like a fighter!
  • Dinner and optional nightlife

Day 3 - Saturday, April 8
  • Breakfast
  • Half-day adventure trip to Las Catalinas for hiking (with optional SUP, kayaking, or biking) and Scavenger Hunt challenges
  • Free time at the beach / grab lunch
  • Return to resort for a free afternoon at the pool/beach
  • The Blast-- A 28 minute interval workout designed to burn max calories and sweat out the demons!
  • Dinner and optional nightlife

Day 4 - Sunday, April 9
  • Chiselbox-- An interval boxing class for all levels to get you shredded like a fighter!….and sweat out some more demons…
  • Breakfast 
  • Surf lesson for all levels
  • Free day to practice surfing, explore the town, relax on the beach, or get a massage (extra)
  • Evening Pool Workout-- You won’t even realize you are working out it will be so fun. 
  • Farewell group dinner (included) and optional nightlife

Day 5 - Monday, April 10
  • (Optional) Beach / Trail Run-- Enjoy your last morning taking a 2-3 mile reflective jog with your new friends and trying to not let reality set in :)
  • Breakfast & catch your last few rays of sun!
  • Goodbyes & departure in provided shuttle to the LIR airport
