Fighting FIT Fusion

As the new year rolls around and the temperature drops lower and lower, join Coach Jay Lippa on a boxing-focused fitness camp in sunny, beautiful Costa Rica! For five days, we'll work out on the beach, surf the waves, chill by the pool, and yes, drink local beer!

The fitness:
The Fighting FIT Fusion retreat is a true fusion of different fitness types and modalities with a common goal: enhancing total body strength and conditioning. Coach Jay will lead two classes per day that alternate between boxing and bootcamp-style circuit training. The boxing classes will be appropriate for all levels and will focus on technique, offense, defense, and footwork, while the circuit training will combine cardio blasts, core conditioning, and yoga-style stretching and mobility.

The retreat:
There's so much more to this retreat than the workouts! During free time, we will be swimming in the ocean, enjoying the multiple pools (and swim-up bars), and exploring the surrounding town of Tamarindo. Plus, we'll enjoy some included excursions like zip lining and a sunset cruise. Optional add-on activities include horseback riding, ATV tours, surfing, and getting a relaxing massage.

Meet Coach Jay Lippa

Jay Lippa is a NASM certified personal trainer and an ISCA certified kickboxing-boxing instructor who also specializes in boot camp fitness, sports conditioning, core conditioning, and cardio training. 

He began his career in fitness in 2007 and works at New York sports club, ROK Fitness, Club Central Fitness, and has worked for Adel's International School of Karate. 

Jay is motivated every day to inspire people to live a healthier lifestyle through good nutrition and consistent exercise, and he leads by example!  For fun, he enjoys boxing, Krav Maga, biking, yoga, obstacle courses like Spartan, and biking.

The Accommodations

​One of Ketanga's favorite places for a fitness getaway, Tamarindo is a unique town in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica known for surfing and low key beach vibes. We will be staying at the beautifully-landscaped Tamarindo Diria, the 4-star beachfront resort with three pools (two with swim-up bars), a fitness center, massage services, and a small casino. Plus, being right on the beach means you'll waste no time between a fresh and delicious breakfast and soaking up the morning sunshine. While the property is relaxing and peaceful, the surrounding town is full of casual restaurants, bars, and shops making for a perfect balance and something for everyone!

Sample itinerary

Thursday, January 11: 
  • Welcome to Costa Rica! Fly into the Liberia (LIR) airport and take provided shuttle to the resort. After getting settled, we'll start off with a casual welcome meeting and jump into the first workout, a Boxing Fundamentals class to work up a sweat and go over the basics of different punches and movements that can benefit all levels of boxers! We'll likely jump in the pool or ocean after and then shower up for dinner at a local restaurant on the beach for a fresh, nutritious meal (included) and to get to know one another.

Friday, January 12: 
  • We'll wake up and start with a Boxing Boot Camp that combines strength and conditioning movements with boxing exercises. After class, a fresh breakfast buffet will be waiting for us. We'll have some free time and then depart for a zip lining excursion through the jungle. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the beach. Around sunset we'll have a second workout, a more restorative class, and then we'll head to dinner with the option to check out some nightlife.

Saturday, January 13: 
  • In this morning's workout, we'll take our boxing to the next level with defensive drills and a focus on footwork. After class and breakfast, the day is yours to go on an additional excursion like ATVs, a surf lesson, or horseback riding, or just relax in the sunshine. We'll have a low impact sunset workout and deep stretch and then pick a restaurant for dinner and perhaps head to the casino or local beer garden for some fun before bed.

Sunday, January 14: 
  • This morning, we'll put our boxing skills together with partner drills and more advanced combinations. After breakfast the morning is yours to go for a surf lesson, soak up the sun, or explore the town. In the early afternoon we'll go on an afternoon / sunset cruise with snorkeling, a high likelihood of seeing dolphins, and an open bar to let loose a little on our last night, and then we'll have a final group dinner (included).

Monday, January 15: 
  • On our final morning, the optional workout will be based on a group vote: a beach run, boxing, HIIT, or deep stretch! We'll have breakfast and enjoy the last few hours of sunshine before heading to the airport.
