Adventures in Iceland

Imagine watching ancient geysers erupt before your eyes, hiking across icy glaciers, practicing yoga on black sand beaches, and bathing in natural geothermal pools. Our much anticipated Iceland Adventure Retreat will bring all of this to life - and more!

On this exciting retreat, we'll experience some of the island’s most precious natural wonders and unique adventures while also staying active through daily workouts and getting to know the local culture and cuisine! And, of course, traveling with other like-minded guests will make this shared experience even more special! 

Fitness
In this special adventure-focused Ketanga retreat, we will enjoy a mix of traditional workouts ranging from HIIT to yoga/stretch and active adventures like hiking. The workouts are for all levels and will be primarily bodyweight-based.

Adventure
This trip is full of adventures ranging from visiting some of the country’s most popular highlights to unique, lesser known experiences. We have a day planned to explore the Golden Circle, home of Thingvellir National Park, the erupting Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall. We will also go hiking on a glacier, visit the Blue Lagoon, and have an option to add-on with excursions like riding Icelandic horses or trekking inside of a volcano.

Relaxation
There’s nothing more relaxing than looking at natural beauty and unique landscapes. Throughout our stops on the retreat, we will take a moment here and there for (optional) meditation, journaling or photography. We also have incorporated a free day on the schedule to relax, visit a spa or sign up for an extra excursion of your choice.

Retreat Itinerary

Friday, August 25
Welcome to Iceland! Guests will arrive at Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and head to the famous Blue Lagoon for introductions and a post-travel soak in the geothermal baths. Lunch and snacks are available for purchase if you're hungry! After enjoying some deep relaxation, we'll depart for Reykjavik, drop off our bags at the hotel and enjoy some free time to walk through town and explore the waterfront. In the late afternoon, we'll have our first fitness class and a welcome dinner as a group. Option to check out some Reykjavik nightlife!

Saturday, August 26
South Coast sightseeing day! We'll depart early to get a head start on our adventure where we'll hike up the Sólheimajökull Glacier, walk behind the majestic Seljalandsfoss waterfall and walk along a black sand beach beside basalt columns (where we'll pause for a yoga class if the weather cooperates!). Upon our return from the full-day trip, we'll have a free night to grab a bite and rest up for the day ahead.

Sunday, August 27
Wake up to a HIIT workout followed by a free day! You'll have the option to sign up for an extra excursion like riding Icelandic horses, touring the inside of a volcano or snowmobiling. Or, choose to explore the city, hit up a spa or simply relax! In the evening we'll come together for dinner and exchange stories from the day.

Monday, August 28
​This morning will begin with a workout at the hotel, and then we'll depart for the Golden Circle, a popular route connecting three of the most unique sights in Iceland: the Geysir Geothermal Area, Gullfoss Waterfall and Thingvellir National Park. We'll have lunch at Friðheimar farm where tomatoes are grown year round using geothermal energy to heat the greenhouses. In the evening, we'll have a final dinner together.

Tuesday, August 29
On our final morning together, we'll have a fitness class and farewell brunch together where we'll recount our favorite memories from the trip! Guests can depart at their leisure. If your flight isn't until later in the day, you may want to check out the Perlan ice cave and planetarium, puffin express boat tour, or simply walk the streets of Reykjavik and grab a nice meal!

Accommodations

Miðgarður by Center Hotels is conveniently positioned at one end of the Reykjavik's main shopping street. Guest rooms deliver modern amenities with clean, contemporary design. Every room comes packed with those little indulgences we love in a hotel room from the minibar to the flat screen TV. Free WiFi is standard. For a real treat check out the hotel spa and take a dip under an Icelandic sky in the thermal-water hot tub. The Standard guest rooms come with two single beds that can combine to create a king-size double if preferred.

Meet Coach Amanda Butler

Picture
Born and raised in Hastings, Nebraska, Amanda Butler has always been a mover and a shaker. At three, her parents put her in ballet and tap, eventually tacking on just about any sport that kept her moving. Long hours on the field and in the studio turned to long hours in the weight room, doing 6 AM ‘agilities’ with the football players and learning the importance of persistence and dedication to your craft. 

Amanda’s ‘no-secret-sauce, just do the work’ approach to fitness has made her a sought-after group instructor, personal trainer, and program coordinator on the ground floor of the NYC fitness industry. A founding trainer of The Fhitting Room and BFX, she’s branched into the digital fitness world, programming and teaching for Aaptiv, NEOU, and TRX. Amanda was also one of the very first Ketanga Coaches and has led multiple retreats over the years.

When she’s not coaching, she is spending time with her three children Alexis, Parker, Logan, and husband, Pablo. Every Sunday, you can find two gratefully exhausted parents splitting a chocolate chip walnut cookie at Levain Bakery.

Amanda is NASM CPT, PROnatal (Levels I & II), AFAA Perinatal, AFAA Group Fitness, KettleBell Concepts, CPR/AED, TRX, and Nutritious Life Nutrition Certified.
