Fitness, Food & Fun in Italy

Known for incredible landscapes, fine wine and rich culture, Tuscany is Italy's beloved central region - and the home of our next Fitness, Food & Fun retreat! This September, join us on the Italian countryside for six days of fitness and hiking in the Chianti hills, tasting the region's best wine and dining on authentic Tuscan cuisine.

Fitness:
This all-levels fitness retreat will incorporate a variety of workouts ranging from strength training to conditioning to restorative stretching. Coach Beth Roberts will start each day with a higher-intensity class targeting the whole body and invigorating the group for the day ahead. Then a second afternoon / early evening class will be on the more restorative side with emphasis on core work and stretching with myofascial release.

Adventure:
When in Italy, one must enjoy the outdoors and local flavors! As part of the program, we are excited to share new places and experiences with you including a hike through the countryside, surrounded by vineyards and the forest. We'll enjoy the unique sounds and sights through the hills, right next to the hotel! Additionally, we will enjoy a private Tuscan cooking class with a local chef learning about the regional flavors and tips for preparing a delicious meal - which we will then dine on together! We'll handpick many ingredients right from the land for the ultimate freshness!

Relaxation:
In between the programmed activities of this retreat, you will have time to enjoy the Italian sunshine and fresh air! The unique hotel in Chianti has a beautiful pool, massage services, and beautiful grounds for relaxation.

The Accommodations

Il Borgo di Vescine is situated on a hill between Radda and Castellina, the heart of the Chianti Classico region. From the hotel, 600 meters above the sea level, you will see the historic town of Radda and a picturesque landscape. The vineyards and centuries-old olive trees surrounding the village are cultivated on ancient terraces bordered by dry stone walls, now registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Guests will be staying in Superior Rooms with original, centuries-old terracotta floors and chestnut structural beams. These rooms are fitted with elegant white combed cotton embroidered bedsheets. Every room at Borgo di Vescine is unique, but they all have state of the art air conditioning, newest Wi-Fi set up, minibar, hairdryer, personalized swimming pool flip flops and towels, flat screen TV's, a special spa-jet shower column and to top it all off: The Salvatore Ferragamo designer courtesy beauty kit. ​The hotel has an outdoor pool, massage services and a land-to-table restaurant on site.

Itinerary

Saturday, September 2
Welcome to Italy! Upon arriving at the Florence (FLR) airport, guests will meet our driver for a private ride to the hotel. We'll check in and get settled and then meet for introductions and a welcome workout. Then we'll continue getting to know one another at a special group dinner with delicious, local cuisine.

Sunday, September 3
Wake up in an Italian paradise and enjoy a morning workout and freshly-prepared breakfast. We'll follow with our first group activity, an invigorating hike through the Chianti hills, observing nature along the way. Upon our return, we'll have a group lunch and then the afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the pool and hotel grounds. We will come back together for our second class in the late afternoon, a more restorative class after the day's adventure. In the early evening, we'll enjoy a wine tasting at the hotel with hand-picked bottles from the surrounding area. Free night - option to explore the nearby town of Radda.

Monday, September 4
Good morning from Italy! Our morning class will wake us up and prepare us for another exciting day! After breakfast, enjoy your time however you'd like: sign up for an extra excursion, book a massage, or read a book by the pool. Lunch will be on your own. We will reconvene in the afternoon and head over to a nearby vineyard for another delicious tasting! After learning about and tasting a variety of wine, we'll return to the hotel for a group dinner.

Tuesday, September 5
This morning we'll kick things off with a workout followed by a fueling breakfast. Then we'll enjoy some free time before meeting our local chef for a special Tuscan cooking class! We will pick some ingredients straight from the farm and learn to create a delicious meal - which we will then enjoy for lunch! In the late afternoon we will meet for a second class, and then enjoy a free night.

Wednesday, September 6
After a morning workout and breakfast, the day will be yours! Enjoy the free time by relaxing at the hotel or perhaps sign up for horseback riding, biking, or a massage. We'll come together in the late afternoon for a second workout followed by a very special final group dinner.

Thursday, September 7
​On our last morning of the retreat, we'll jump to it with a morning workout and breakfast. Then we'll pack our bags and head to the airport as a group for goodbyes feeling strong and refreshed!

Meet Your Coach

​Beth Roberts is a fitness trainer and nutrition/lifestyle coach with over 20 years of experience. Beth has taught many styles of fitness and levels of clients over her career as a private coach and group exercise instructor. Her passion for Boot Camp style interval training drove her to establish Killington Boot Camp in Killington, Vermont, where she keeps fitness fun with a variety of indoor and outdoor workouts.

After hosting her first retreat with Ketanga in Tulum, Mexico, Beth has caught the fitness travel bug and has become one of Ketanga's most popular retreat leaders with trips in Costa Rica, Barbados, Cape Cod, and Hawaii!

"This retreat was very well organized from shuttles, tours, workouts, and meals. The morning workouts were a great way to start my day with a variety of different exercises that were both challenging and fun. The breakfasts at the resort were delicious with a fabulous view. All of our tour excursions were well organized and unique with a workout at a local gym, a hike along the mountainside with ocean views, and a fun trip to a local beach with lots of activities. It was nice to have some things planned but also to have our own down time. Coach Beth is a great instructor and everyone can workout at their own comfort level.
