Power Yoga & Adventure Retreat: Portugal

Join the inaugural Ketanga Fitness Retreat to Portugal! This action-packed adventure is not your average yoga retreat. From dining at family-run restaurants to hiking to the westernmost tip of Europe to high-energy yoga sculpting classes overlooking colorful palaces, a truly unique and authentic experience awaits!

Our host is Ketanga alum-turned-Coach, Kayla Mantegazza! After participating in a retreat and falling in love with the fitness + adventure + relaxation that Ketanga offers, Kayla is thrilled to bring her own yoga expertise, love of travel and passion for adventure to this experience. Plus, having been on the other side of the retreat, she has a lot of surprises up her sleeves for the group!

Fitness/Yoga
Kayla's teaching style caters to a wide range of people from beginners who are new to yoga, to advanced yogis who practice handstands daily, and even to people who think they hate yoga because they "just don't feel like it's a workout." On this retreat, Kayla will lead a variety of classes that balance higher intensity/power yoga with restorative and stretching classes based around our itinerary and other activities each day. 

Higher intensity classes will include fast-paced Vinyasa flows with HIIT/cardio intervals, repetitions of poses using bodyweight, bands for resistance, and isometric holds to build muscular endurance. Restorative classes will focus on alignment, technique and relaxation to revitalize the mind and body.

Adventure
Working out is only half the fun on this Portugal adventure. Each day we will experience something unique and exciting ranging from hiking along the coast in Sintra, biking to a private beach in Cascais, visiting ancient palaces, and horseback riding through the countryside.

Relaxation
In between our activities and yoga classes will be plenty of free time to relax or explore on your own! Our hotel is in the middle of Estoril with many restaurants, cafes and shopping nearby. Plus, we'll be across the street from a local park. And if you prefer to stay in and relax, our hotel has a gorgeous spa with a la carte services and complimentary use of the dynamic swimming pool, hammam, Jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath and gym.

Thursday, April 25: 
  • Welcome to Portugal! Arrive at the Lisbon airport and take included transportation to the resort. (Participants will be given a time frame upon registration to arrive to take advantage of the transfer). We'll get settled at the hotel and meet for friendly introductions before jumping into our first class, a sunset yoga practice, waking up our bodies from the day of travel. Dinner will be included.

Friday, April 26: 
  • Wake up to a morning yoga practice and fresh breakfast (breakfast is served 7:30AM-10:30AM). Then we will depart for a guided tour of the palaces of Sintra! Explore the colorful Pena Palace, the extravagant Quinta da Regaleira mansion and the Moorish Castle (and perhaps stop for an impromptu yoga photoshoot with the stunning historical architecture in the background! The rest of the day is free and then we’ll come together for a second yoga class in the early evening. Free night!

Saturday, April 27: 
  • This morning we will have a yoga practice and breakfast at the hotel and then some free time to explore the town of Estoril. In the afternoon, we will be picked up for a guided hike in a different side of stunning Sintra! We will visit the westernmost tip of Europe (Cape Roca) and walk along the picturesque cliffy shore. The hike will end at Adraga Beach where Kayla will lead a restorative flow before a fantastic dinner (included) at a local family restaurant in its 4th generation, known for fresh grilled fish!

Sunday, April 28: 
  • Today, we will wake up to an invigorating yoga practice and breakfast at the resort! Then we'll have a free day to explore and enjoy! For anyone interested, we'll visit the neighboring town of Cascais and go biking to the famous beach of Guincho. We'll relax, bike back and have a restorative afternoon yoga class. In the evening, a group dinner will call an end to the memorable day.

Monday, April 29: 
  • This morning, we'll enjoy a final yoga practice and breakfast and have a free day to do anything that was left on your wishlist before departing for the Lisbon airport. We'll head home feeling refreshed, renewed and stronger than ever!

The Accommodations

The Hotel Palácio Estoril is one of Europe's great hotels which has been enchanting successive generations of guests from the four corners of the globe since 1930. Its long existence is intertwined with the history of Europe and the world and with changing attitudes. Now, in the 21st century, the Palácio is still grand but at the same time is a completely renovated, up-to-date hotel with modern facilities that manages to be welcoming and cosy despite its grandeur. Located in the heart of Estoril, just 20 minutes from the centre of Lisbon, the Palácio is a five star hotel set in beautiful gardens and with outstanding views over Estoril and the Bay of Cascais.

The hotel's amenities include a pool, garden, two restaurants, and a bar. Guests also have access to the wellness center and full-service spa and have Molton Brown products in their bathrooms. There is complimentary WiFi - perfect for looking up the James Bond movie shot here!

Meet your Coach

Kayla Mantegazza is a Boston-based yoga teacher with a heart of gold, buns of steel, and laugh like Danny DeVito. She is the author of the blog, “Yoganna Love This."  

Kayla completed her 500hr YTT with the intention of empowering people from all walks of life to make wellbeing their priority. She provides a safe haven to access boutique-quality classes on a ramen noodle budget, with dignity and ease.  She was featured by BostonVoyager Magazine in November 2018 for a piece titled,“Boston’s Most Inspiring Stories.”  

When Kayla isn't practicing yoga, she gets an endorphin high by lifting weights, hiking, and secretly learning the choreography to any music video Beyoncé released in the early 2000s. More than strength or flexibility, Kayla says the most valuable skills a yogi can possess are resilience and a sense of humor because she is a firm believer that the most effective way to conquer the fear of falling in an arm balance is by living through a face plant.

Her teaching style is an energetic Vinyasa flow that incorporates bursts of high-intensity cardio intervals, sculpting with weights and resistance bands, and functional strength training using bodyweight.

Kayla joins Team Ketanga as a Coach after participating in a Ketanga retreat as a guest and being inspired by the experience and camaraderie!
