![]() This morning, JackRabbit Sports in Union Square graciously cleared the clothing racks to reveal a surprisingly large studio space! It was a frigid morning, but there were a few brave souls who came out for a free boxing fundamentals workout with Coach Duke! We started with dynamic stretching to loosen up our hip flexors, quads, calves, and glutes. The hip flexor movement, in particular, felt great and is especially important for runners, like this crowd. (The exercise is shown above... imagine doing this exaggerated lunge movement across the length of the store). Moving right along to boxing fundamentals! Coach Duke showed us how punches don't come from your arms, they come from your hips and core (just like swinging a golf club or a baseball bat). He made sure our form was correct and we let him have it!... well, not quite, but the air in front of us got quite a beat down. The third and final phase of the morning workout was strength training and plyometrics. Think: spiderman push-ups, jump squats, teasers, and more. (So much accomplished, and most of our friends are still asleep!) Thanks to Coach Duke for a great, total body workout! The intimate group got a lot of one-on-one attention, and we will appreciate it tomorrow when our muscles are sore!
Join Coach Duke on his upcoming Boxing Boot Camp retreat in Mexico, April 10-14.
