Upcoming Retreats: Vitality in Movement (55+) in Costa Rica (January 11-16th) New Year Stronger You in Costa Rica (January 17 - 21st) (Ketanga) What excites you about hosting a fitness retreat? (Sarah) I am looking forward to combining my two passions, traveling and coaching. I am excited to work and connect with people and share the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. I am a teacher, a coach first and I am excited to connect with a new group of people to share and teach them ways to enhance their life. What is your go-to breakfast? I tend to have my breakfast while I am coaching, and my go-to-breakfast is a green protein smoothie. I have been making it every morning for as long as I can remember, and I still look forward to it every day. It is a handful of kale, half a banana (or ½ a pear if I want to change it up), ginger, a scoop of my plant protein powder, a scoop of matcha, and a scoop ashwagandha root powder, blended with ice and water. It is absolutely delicious. Depending on how early I start and when my training is that day, I will have a late morning snack which is always a Thunderbird bar. How do you wind down after a long day? Since I am interacting with people for most of the day, I find some quiet time every evening when I get home and refer to it as ‘Sarah Time.’ I will either sit in silence and let my mind begin to relax as I reflect on the day and think of what might be ahead for the next. A few nights a week, I will spend 10 minutes stretching and/or foam rolling before I go to bed which helps me wind down as well. What is one goal you have by the end of 2018? A goal of mine for 2018 was to travel more domestically and abroad. Before the year started I wrote out trips I wanted to take and have been able to plan all of them. Traveling and experiencing other cultures is a big passion of mine. Earlier this year I spent over two weeks in Bali which is one of my favorite places. Another goal of mine was to take my mother on a mother/daughter trip. It was a new tradition I started with her last year and wanted to make sure that was a possibility. In October, I am taking her to Italy for the first time for a week. Goals are important to continue to see progress and stay focused. Every few months, I take time to check in with myself on my progress with goals I have set for myself whether they are personal, professional, or training related. We have one life to live, and I want to make sure I am living the one I want which means continuing to grow, explore, and live life to its fullest! Tell us a fun fact (or two) about yourself! 1. I share my birthday with my grandmother, I would always tell her I was the gift that kept on giving :) Growing up we would always spend it together, going shopping for school, going out to eat, getting ice-cream, and having a slumber party. As I got older, we kept the tradition of always celebrating it together. Getting ice-cream together is something I still do every year. 2. Another fun fact is a lived abroad in South Korea for two years. Moving to South Korea was the first time I went abroad. During that time, I caught the travel bug because I was able to go to a different country almost every other month for vacation. Living abroad for an extended period of time, experiencing a completely different culture and learning how others live helped shape who I am as an adult. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Best advice I have received comes from my family. Specifically from my Grandmother and mother, they have shaped me into the woman I am today. When I experience times of confusion, doubt, or fear I think of the lessons they taught me. An important, and simple, one is ‘take a moment, breathe, and trust.” Simple advice, but for many of us we forget about it. It is important to take time/a moment and be present throughout life or else we miss it. Reconnecting with our breath and self helps focus our energy and center ourselves. Trusting in ourselves and staying true to who we are. We are all unique and special in our own way, embrace and trust ourselves.
