We sat down with Lauren Nicholl, a travel and wellness blogger who combines her passions for fitness & travel, to hear about her experiences living on the West Coast and why she thinks Sonoma is one of the best places to travel to. This comes at the perfect time before our fit-cation to Wine Country this August (trip info here). Read on to find out why you should visit Sonoma (and why you should come on our fitcation!) Ketanga: What do you miss the most about living in San Fran? Lauren Nicholl: The thing I miss most is not the bar scene or the nightlife. It’s not food trucks or amazing Vietnamese restaurants (why can’t I find good pho in New York?!). It’s not the music festivals, PRIDE parade, or Giants games. The thing I miss most is how easy it is to get out of the city, and more specifically, to get to wine country. Not just any wine country, but one of the best in the world. K: What makes Sonoma one of the best areas for wine? LN: Sonoma County in particular is a wine lover’s paradise. From Russian River’s Pinot to Dry Creek’s Zin, this is the place to be for big, bold, brilliantly balanced vino. Whether you’re an experienced taster or simply a fan of the Dionysian drink, there is something guaranteed for everyone amongst the county’s 400+ wineries. LN: A big reason why Sonoma County can offer such an array of flavor and complexity in its wine is due to its diversity in landscape. Ranging from the coastline to the mountains with over 60,000 acres of vineyards in between, this part of the country is particularly breathtaking. K: We specifically chose Sonoma for our retreat this August because of its stellar reputation for beautiful scenery and fantastic wines. In your opinion, what makes Sonoma a great fitness vacation location? LN: With this backdrop and temperate weather year round, Sonoma is always a good idea. Less touristy than it’s next-door neighbor Napa Valley, it’s the perfect place to take a deep breath, take a big sip, and perhaps take a kickass workout class? (Not necessarily that order.) All this and so much more could be yours this summer! We only have a couple more spots left for our Workouts + Wine Tasting retreat this August with fit pro Amanda Butler, get it while it's hot!
