6 Ways to Stick to a Fitness Routine in 2020

It happens year after year. We set healthy resolutions with the greatest intentions to be more active, lose pesky weight, go to the gym, etc. But somehow it seems to fade out - maybe not January 2, but often by February, by summer? We're now just a week into 2020, check in on yourself, how are you doing?

This year, with a little help from our Ketanga Coaches, we want to help you bring those goals to fruition. See below for top tips to help you actually stick to a fitness routine this year.

1. Whatdya like?

Instead of looking at what is the 'most popular new workout' acknowledge how your body LIKES to move. If you don't enjoy what you are doing for your fitness routine chances are you will not continue it. Try out a few new workouts and see what you enjoy doing. I promise it will last longer. - Coach Britney Byfield, Yoga & Adventure Retreat in Costa Rica

2. A Daily Reminder

Challenge yourself to be better each day than you were the day before. Simple challenge for 2020. - Coach Beth Roberts, Spring Equinox Retreat in Costa Rica, Fitness Food & Fun in Italy, Adventures in Paradise in Hawaii

3. What's Your Why?

Understand why you are on your fitness journey. Make your 'why' specific, honest, and create a strong connection to it. For example, is training important to you so you have the energy and ability to play with your grandchildren; do you want to go through daily activities pain free? In order to keep progressing, make your goals specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic, timely, and self-determined. - Sarah Gawron, 2020 Fitness Jumpstart & Fitness & Adventure in Colombia

4. Ability to Evolve & Grow

Find a fitness routine that is constantly teaching you something new and pushing you forward. Whether it's better technique, more weight, more reps, or faster mitt work. Whatever it is, it will keep you coming back and wanting more. - Nikki Campbell, Boxing & The Beach in Costa Rica

5. Easy Does It

I've made the mistake in the past of over training and not giving my body the time to rest and recuperate. A tip for sticking to a fitness plan is viewing fitness as a lifestyle and part of a daily routine. - Cathy Trenary, Namaste Vacay in Mexico

5. Visualize Your Win

Every morning and every evening take 5 minutes to visualise yourself already achieving the goal you have set for yourself. Emotionally connect with what that will feel like for you and live it each day. Combine this with hard work and dedication you will start to see your results materialize right in front of you. It is also extremely important to be patient, it takes time. Trust your process. Do not make the mistake of doing nothing, just because you can’t do everything. - Jay Rose,  Phase SiX Revolution in Costa Rica
